Ms. Mary Kay Brengosz, P.E.Principal and Senior Water Resources Engineer

Ms. Brengosz has more than twenty-five years experience performing and managing a variety of engineering analyses related to water resources and water rights engineering and hydrology in Colorado and neighboring states. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado. Ms. Brengosz has extensive experience completing projects including water rights and irrigation system evaluations, historical use and stream depletion analyses for changes of water rights and plans for augmentation, water supply planning, development of water rights accounting, reservoir operation studies, water system modeling and yield studies, and hydrologic, water rights and river basin modeling. She has a special interest in the ongoing evolution of methods used to estimate crop evapotranspiration. Through her work for a municipal water provider prior to joining SWE in 1997, she has experience in municipal raw water acquisition, water rights protection, water supply planning, operation, management and accounting, as well as ditch company operations. Ms Brengosz served on the Board of Directors of several ditch companies and was secretary of the Colorado Agricultural Ditch Company and president of the Farmers' High Line Lateral Company. She estimates that she has walked all or parts of the length of more than fifty irrigation ditches in Colorado and New Mexico.
Ms. Brengosz has been involved in complex water rights proceedings in Colorado on behalf of both applicants and objectors, particularly in the South Platte River and Clear Creek basins. She has provided analyses in four river basin adjudications in New Mexico and has also been involved in Interstate Compact litigation and ongoing compact compliance activities on the Arkansas and Republican Rivers. Ms. Brengosz has provided expert testimony in Colorado District Court Water Division 1 and Routt County District Court.
